TASTE: The chocolate taste is subtle with the medicated part being a bit stronger than expected. It is still tasty, but obviously medicated. The marshmallows give the cocoa texture, giving it a mild thickness. It gets a little hard to finish near the end because the milk coagulates at the top, and the mix collects at the bottom. The last couple of sips are extra thick. In reality it actually tastes like a melted chocolate hash bar, and would definitely be more enjoyable on a cold winter night.
EFFECTS: The cocoa took effect much quicker than expected, as they could begin to be felt within 20 minutes while it took around 10 minutes to finish the mug. Relaxing body high with an interesting cerebral kick that puts light pressure at the top of the eyes, and a light glaze over them. It is a constant high without any peak and valleys that does not get too intense. It remains at a comfortable level, and does well for aches and pains. Good for pain relief, relaxation, and sleep aid. Great nighttime treat, and good for a cold night.
The instructions that came with the pouch were a bit ambiguous. They were, in short, "use milk" (water does not work), "bring milk to boil", "put in mix", "stir well", and that's it. In case anyone hasn't brought milk to a boil...it needs to be stirred constantly, or it will overflow like a volcano. Also, after the mix it put it, it also needs to be stirred constantly, or the chocolate will collect at the top (and burn the bottom). The heat also needs to be lowered to a simmer, which was not listed at all. The process it a bit more complicated than the directions suggest, but definitely not dificult.
