"Cannabis helps me sleep. I've been an insomniac since I was a child. When I lay down to go to sleep I get very anxious. I get up five or six times to check that the doors and windows are locked. I check on my kids, and then recheck them. When I finally lay down my mind starts racing. What did I forget to do today? What do I have to do tomorrow? What's that sound? Did I let the dog back in? Maybe I should go pee one more time... Replaying conversations and events from the day, coming up with insane and extremely unlikely scenarios like alien invasions, zombie apocalypse, nuclear war, super volcano...you name it. The only way I can fall asleep easily is to stay awake until I'm physically exhausted, which is usually around 4 am. Since I have to be up by 6 am, this usually doesn't work too well for me.
I've tried prescription sleep aids like Ambien and Lunesta, but they put me so far into sleep that I'm unable to wake up if I need to. Having three small children, I have to be rouse if I'm needed. I used Benadryl for awhile, but it would leave me feeling groggy in the morning.
I smoke a small amount of cannabis before bedtime, and it relaxes me enough that I'm able to fall asleep easily. I am also completely functional if I need to get out of bed in the night. I wake up feeling well rested. It has completely changed my life as laying down to go to sleep is now an enjoyable experience, and no longer a source of anxiety."
