"When I was a teenager I was diagnosed with scoliosis. It got worse to the point I required surgery, so now most of my spine is fused. That means all of the weight of my upper body is on 3 or 4 discs instead of being evenly distributed. Unsurprisingly this led to me having herniated discs. Just one is pretty painful; I have 3.For years I took the maximum dose of ibuprofen every day and it would let me drag myself through a part time job and not much else. I would come home in agony, eat a bowl of cereal if I felt I could make it, and pass out. Even then I could barely sleep. Since I'm young they don't want to give me opiate painkillers, even though obviously nothing about my condition is going away.Using marijuana to deal with pain gave me my life back. I'm still limited, but I have a way to deal with my pain now. I'm less limited by "am I going to be able to get through this without massive amounts of pain and stress?" Most importantly, it made me happy again. I don't think it's something people without chronic pain really understand, but hurting every day for years on end just wears down your soul. It can turn you into a nasty person. Marijuana keeps me pain free and keeps me happy."
