CanniCorner: Punta Roja (Seed from REAL Colombian Punto Rojo)

AROMA: This is probably one of the most pungent sativas I've encountered out of GSPA. The stench to this strain is absolutely ridiculous, as it is seeping through the lid of my glass mason jar. It has a smell slightly similar to the Pure Lights they had from the nug itself, but once one is broken up the smell becomes much different. It releases a citrus skunk stench with a slight sour, pepper-like, twist. The smell is quite unique, and something that doesn't surprise me at all coming out of a Colombian landrace.

TASTE: The flavor of the strain is surprisingly different from the aroma, but not in a bad way. At first the taste of the strain is exactly like the smell, with a strong sweet citrus flavor to it. However, after a couple of seconds, the flavor becomes an acutely strong skunk taste. The aftertaste then changes, again, to a mix of both the sweet citrus and skunk flavors. It is a unique tasting strain, much like the flavor, and should be tried for anyone that like sweet sativas.

LOOK: What can I say about this strain that can't be seen in the pictures? Not much. The dark orange hairs have an almost red appearance at certain angles, and almost completely cover the nugs. The are stray leaves here and there, but I actually thank the grower for not trying to get them. It would have sacrificed way too many hairs! The abundance is astounding, as the nugs are barely visible. It is hard to tell from the pictures, or even from the nug itself, but the nugs are relatively rather dense. If you push aside a hair or two you will be able to see the insane amount of trichomes caked on top of the nugs, with an abundance of caps. It is a beautiful strain...check it out. I've said enough.

EFFECTS: My opinions on this strain could very well be biased, because I am still reeling from the fact that I was able to try this strain... However, this Punta Roja is an absolutely amazing sativa, and one that needs to be seen by ALL connoisseurs. It has a relatively quick onset that expands the lungs a good amount, and makes the face become flush. Once the warm feeling leaves the face it is replaced by a heavy sativa kick that is remarkably cerebral. Colors become more vibrant, lights became brighter, and it has a quite energizing effect. It left me speechless for a good amount of time, but once the sativa effects fully kicked it was hard to stop writing.

I will openly admit that when I saw Punta Roja on GSPA's menu I was giddy as a schoolgirl. I assumed that it was Punto Rojo, and learned that it was grown from the seed of it. Colombian Punta Roja (Red Point) is one of Colombia's more famous strains, and supposedly one of the most potent. This was grown from a seed obtained from real Colombian Punto Rojo, by an individual who was living in South America at the time. Sure, this sounds like a familiar "weed story", but GSPA has never given me a reason to distrust what they say. It is an amazing sativa. I am pretty sure this is the longest review ever written on the site, so that should at least be a testament to its heavy sativa effects.
