Pure Lights (Backcrossed Northern Lights)
Sativa
Price: $45 per 1/8th
AROMA: Straight out of the jar, the Pure Lights lends a faint spicy smell that, when pinched or cracked open, turns into a much stronger and different smell. What hits you is an increasingly piney scent that just gets stronger and stronger the more you smell it. Northern Lights is known to have a distinct, deep pine smell and this definitely has it. It’s so pungent it almost stings the nostrils. As this strain is backcrossed with itself, there isn’t much else as is expected. It did have a little earthy tone to it, but overall pure, heavy pine everywhere.
TASTE: The pungent smell of the Pure Lights carries through in the taste, with an intense piney flavor that sticks around long after the exhale. The expansion will give you a good kick in the chest, each cough bringing back the full-bodied pine flavor that this strain is known for. There does seem to be a little spiciness to it right after the initial inhale, but the pine completely overpowers it quickly.
LOOK: Big, and I mean BIG, but light nugs filled the lower ¼ of the jar at G.S. After guessing at what I thought was a nug close to a quarter-ounce in size, it turned out to be 3.4 grams. It’s not very dense, and while the trim could have been a little better, the leaves are all frosty with trichomes (though some haven’t fully grown). It’s plain to see that this plant has been well taken care of. There are no signs of being vacuumed-compressed and all the trichomes on the buds are standing tall in pristine condition.
EFFECTS: This is where the * comes in. Golden State lists this strain as a sativa, but its genetics are indica dominant. I believe the reason is because this med is so powerful, the initial headiness is very sativa-like. There is notable nausea and pain relief, but an eventual body-stone that could leave you on the couch for a little bit. High-tolerance patients could probably use this during the daytime but I could not recommend it for most. Try it in the late afternoon or evening if you’re a first-timer to this strain.
Northern Lights isn’t something that comes around too often and is very unique. The only time I’ve ever seen better than this was from a private grow in which the patient was able to care for the plant every single day.
